Five episodes dedicated to a discussion on a book about building self-esteem, called 'Accept, Value and Empower Yourself' by David Bonham Carter.

The last few year haven't been easy, a string of hard situation, seriously affected our mental health. We're now suffering from recurring burnout, struggles to set boundaries, oversharing and the ability to speak freely. 

Eventually, after spending a lot of time alone, we realized our low self-esteem was causing us problems, we went to the library and got books on building self-esteem. 

This is how we found this book, we picked it because the writing was big and it was a smaller book. Bonus, it looked great. It turned out to be exactly what we needed at the moment.


In our opinion, this book is very practical and serves as a guide to help build self-esteem. We enjoy that it is based on modern CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) approach. Ii is grounded, realistic, and packed with cases studies, tips and exercises.

It is structured around a 5 part plan :
  • Value Yourself – challenging limiting beliefs (chapter 1)
  • Accept Yourself – embracing self-acceptance (chapter 2)
  • Look After Yourself – mind and body care (chapter 3)
  • Understand Yourself – building self-awareness (chapter 4)
  • Empower Yourself – learning assertiveness and communication (chapter 5)

We started the book on March 19th 2023 and finished it April 25th 2025, we worked on this almost daily. This isn’t a book to read in a day, it’s more of a workbook. It takes time to get through, one must not rush this. Looking back, all the times invested in this book was definitely worth it. 

When we turned that last page, we knew we needed to share this information, but one episode was just not going to cut it. This is why we're launching this book discussion in a mini-series format, with one episode dedicated to each chapter.
