Emotions , les émotions
Hello wonderful butterflies of this world 🦋,
It's you host, Ash, from Butterfly Shots Photography!
Today we dive in to a personal poem that was created in March 2022. It's an expression of emotions and how they're hard to deal with. The poem is accompanied by an overlay of two self-portraits from 2022.
EMOTIONS,they're hard for everyone,
most decide to label them as good or bad,
just to keep them stuck inside,
push them down until there's no more room,
until the volcano explodes and everything gets mixed up,
why arent we observing the emotions, like they're just clouds floating by,
identifying them, feeling them 110%,
expressing them and letting them go with the wind?
Journal of Ash (march 2022)
A french version of this poem was also written, here it goes:
Les émotions,
elle sont difficiles pour tous,
certains décident de les classer, bonnes ou mauvaises,
pour ensuite les garder à l'interne,
jusqu'à ce qu'il n'y ai plus de place,
jusqu'à ce que le volcan explose,
que tout se confond,
pourquoi ne pas les observer passer, comme des nuages, les identifier,
les sentir à 110%, les exterioriser et les laisser partir dans le vent?
Journal of Ash (march 2022)
This poem speaks to a universal truth: emotions can be hard to deal with.
From our perspective, society often pushes us to categorize our feelings, to label them as 'good' or 'bad'. We find this idea constricting, it forces people to suppress the 'bad emotions'. To shove them deep until they resurface once at breaking point, 'the volcano' in the poem. Think about the analogy for a minute: the pressure building up, until the energy finally erupts, leaving behind a chaos. It's a powerful metaphor for the consequences of emotional avoidance.
The poem poses a question:
'why arent we observing the emotions, like they're just clouds floating by, identifying them, feeling them 110%, expressing them and letting them go with the wind?'
It presents the idea of treating our emotions with a sense of detached observation, to look at them like fleeting clouds in the sky. To acknowledge their presence, to truly feel them without judgment. And then, to allow them to pass, to release them into the metaphorical wind (later in CBT therapy, we learned that the ''clouds theory'' is actually a thing).
This poem was born from a specific very difficult moment of our life. It encourages us to question our relationship with our emotions. It can be seen as a gentle invitation to try a healthier approach to managing emotions.
Are we truly allowing ourselves to feel, to observe, and to release? Or are we caught in a cycle of suppression that ultimately leads to internal eruptions?
It's fascinating to see how these feelings translate into another language: The French version, "Les émotions".
